INTERCEPTED: NBA SUSPENDS RASHARD LEWIS FOR STEROID VIOLATION

Thursday, August 6, 2009

From the NBA.com:

NEW YORK, Aug. 6, 2009 – Rashard Lewis of the Orlando Magic has been suspended without pay for ten games for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program by testing positive for an elevated testosterone level, it was announced today by the NBA. Lewis’ suspension will begin with the first game of the 2009-10 NBA regular season for which he is eligible and physically able to play.

Rashard Lewis Statement:

“First and foremost I take full responsibility for the situation and accept the corresponding penalty.

Toward the end of the season I took an over-the-counter supplement which at the time I did not realize included a substance banned by the NBA.

I apologize to Magic fans, my teammates and this organization for not doing the research that should come with good judgment.

I hope this unintentional mistake will not reflect poorly on our team and its great character.

I hope every athlete can learn from my mistake that supplements, no matter how innocent they seem, should only be taken after consulting an expert in the field.”

When will these dudes learn? Cute smile though. Smh!

INTERCEPTED: Antonio Pierce Will Not Be Indicted...Burress Will

Monday, August 3, 2009

In not so surprising news...Sal Paolantonio of ESPN is reporting that the grand jury has voted against formally indicting New York Giants LB Antonio Pierce.

My assumption is that they have nothing to go on but the decision has been dragged out to create more of a distraction for the Giants and everyone involved.

His attorney, Michael Bachner, spoke directly with ESPN regarding the outcome.

I'm going to refrain from offering my true feelings on this one. But I'm happy that this will no longer be an issue for any ACTIVE Giants players.

ProFootball.com however is reporting that Plaxico Burress has been indicated on felony gun charges.

ESPN reports that receiver Plaxico Burress will be indicted on felony weapons charges arising from the November 2008 incident in a Manhattan nightclub, during which Burress accidentally shot himself with a gun he was toting in the waistband of his sweatpants.
The move means that Burress will, absent a plea bargain, face a trial.

No date has been set; his lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, previously has indicated that his calendar prevents him from being available until March 2010.

The next question is whether Commissioner Roger Goodell will suspend Burress indefinitely until the case is resolved and any jail term is served.

Two years ago, Goodell did just that with quarterback Mike Vick.

Words cannot describe how many times over I am THROUGH with this entire ordeal. SMH

**MORE Michael Jackson Updates**

Wednesday, July 29, 2009
**Dr. Conrad Murray confessed to drugging Michael Jackson.**

No sooner than I post a positive story about Michael Jackson, I receive shocking and devastating word regarding his personal doctor, Conrad Murray. Apparently, he has allegedly confessed to administering the drug Propofol to the King of Pop which may have resulted in his death, authorities are saying. Although we all have speculated this to be true, this is the first time police are corroborating what we all thought.

From Essense.com via TMZ.com:

Multiple law enforcement sources tell TMZ.com that Dr. Murray told LAPD detectives two days after his death that he administered Propofol to the singer hours before he died. Police suspect Dr. Murray simply wasn't paying attention when Jackson's heart stopped beating. Authorities also say that Dr. Murray may have actually fallen asleep during the time the drug was administered and may have awakened to find the singer already dead from heart failure.

The medical community considers it reckless to administer an IV drip of Propofol without an EKG on hand to monitor the patient. The EKG sounds an alarm when the patient's pulse drops too low. There was no EKG found in Jackson's rented mansion.

Dr. Murray is currently being investigated on manslaughter charges.

XIKhai and I are outraged and stunned by this new development. This is all too crazy! I’m at a lost…wow…Now, everyone is speculating whether it was done intentionally with (Kevorkian-style) or without MJ’s consent or was it completely accidental. All I know is he had better watch his back, because if this rings true and he is charged, some crazy MJ fans will have his head (literally). Regardless, Murray was wrong for administering an anesthetic drug without proper medical equipment and should definitely be brought to justice in the role he played in MJ’s death.

**Statement from Katherine Jackson regarding her son's will.**

Also being reported:

ESSENCE.com received the following statement directly from the publicist for Katherine Jackson's attorney L. Londell McMillan:

Mrs. Jackson continues to serve as her son's most trusted and loyal advocate even in death. In an effort to gain more facts concerning a suspicious circle of relationships, unnotarized will and an undisclosed trust, both drafted in 2002, which grant the executors and trustees thereunder very broad powers, Mrs. Jackson has sought formal discovery of the temporary special administrators of her son's estate. The Court has made clear that it will consider Mrs. Jackson's demand for expedited discovery, and all other serious issues relating to the estate, on August 3rd. We are confident that at that time the court will allow Mrs Jackson full discovery.

To be clear, neither Mrs. Jackson nor her representatives seek to re-write her son's will. Her concerns are and remain the welfare of her son's surviving children, the preservation of his legacy and the protection of his estate. No one should deny Mrs. Jackson the right to help preserve and administer Michael's legacy especially those whom had almost no contact with Michael for numerous years prior to his death.

Through all of this, she is the only one who has her son's BEST interest at heart! GO Mama Jackson!

INTERCEPTED: Plaxco Burress Testifies

ProFootball Talk is reporting that Plaxico has in fact testified in front of a grand jury today and afterwards spoke to the media about some of what was said in the court room.

Plaxico Burress testified in front of a grand jury in New York City Wednesday for two and a half hours.

Once he was done, he surprisingly spoke to the media about it.

"I was truthful. I was honest," Burress said. "I'm truly remorseful what I've done and what happened and what I did. I just want to thank everybody - family, friends, fans - for their prayers and support."

Burress' lawyer Benjamin Brafman said it took a "big man" to acknowledge his responsibility and testify Wednesday. (It's true: Brafman's head appears to be level with Plax's chest, like mine would.)

Brafman said that Burress pointed out many "mitigating circumstances" including that he had no criminal intent and that Burress was the only victim in this case.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio pointed out that Burress appears to be mounting a P.R. case in addition to the one they presented in court.

It's unclear when we'll know if an indictment is handed down.

Again, Florio is the legal expert around here. But it seems odd that Burress was asked questions for 150 minutes Wednesday when the case appears so cut and dry.

In his own words, Brafman reportedly wanted to "humanize" Burress to the jury. The lanky Giants receiver appeared to be fighting back emotions after he spoke to the press.

I think this has put me over the edge with black athletes in and out of trouble for the week. I've had enough for a lifetime. This man fell too fast and too hard for me to be able to comprehend.

****BREAKING NEWS**** BRETT FAVRE TO REMAIN RETIRED!

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

From NFL.com

Quarterback Brett Favre has decided to stay retired and not join the Minnesota Vikings this season, he told NFL Network's Rich Eisen in a text message.
Brett Favre, QB

Career Statistics
Seasons: 18
Passing Yards: 65,127
TDs/INTs: 464/310
Passer Rating: 85.4

Vikings coach Brad Childress told The Star Tribune in Minneapolis that Favre didn't want to put himself through the grind of a 19th NFL season.

"I just think it was a rare opportunity to explore a Hall of Fame quarterback who had background in the NFC and in this division (with the Green Bay Packers)," Childress told The Star Tribune. "He knows our system inside out … This doesn't change anything about how I feel about our football team."

Favre retired for a second time after playing for the New York Jets last season. He had surgery in May to alleviate a torn biceps tendon.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Considering ALL of the crap he pulled during the off season...just to remain retired after all. WTF FAVRE?! Chyle boo!

And in other NFL News sadly Jim Johnson The Philadelphia Eagles Defensive Coordinator has passed away. After a long battle with cancer.

The team disclosed the recurrence in January, nearly two weeks after it lost to the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship.

INTERCEPTED: NFL Reinstates Michael Vick "Conditionally"

Monday, July 27, 2009
According to NFL.com & The Washington Post:

The NFL has reinstated quarterback Michael Vick on a conditional basis, the league has announced.Vick is permitted to sign with a team and participate in training camp, according to the league.

He is eligible to play in his team's final two preseason games and will be considered for full reinstatement by Week 6 of the regular season, according to the announcement.According to the NFL, former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy has agreed to work with Vick as an advisor. The announcement comes a week after Vick was released from federal custody. The quarterback has missed the last two NFL seasons while serving his federal sentence for his role in a dogfighting operation in Virginia. He had been on indefinite suspension by the NFL.NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made the decision after meeting with Vick on Wednesday at a security firm in New Jersey.

Vick, 29, is a free agent after being released by the Atlanta Falcons during the offseason. It's not clear which NFL teams, if any, are interested in signing him."This step-by-step approach is not meant to be a further punishment and should not be viewed as such," Goodell wrote in a letter to Vick, according to the NFL's announcement. "Instead, it is intended to maximize the prospect that you can successfully resume your career and your life. I believe that a transitional approach with a strong network of support will give you the best opportunity to manage effectively the various issues and pressures that you will inevitably face in the coming weeks and months and earn your full reinstatement."

The NFL just got a lot more interesting in my opinion...I want the Michael Vick Experience BACK! Throwback for true football fans ;)

Gun Residue Found on Kazemi's Hands

Wednesday, July 8, 2009
From ESPN.com:

"Nashville's assistant medical examiner stated gunpowder residue was found on the hands of Steve McNair's girlfriend, who was found dead alongside the slain former NFL star."

However, the assistant medial examiner stopped just short of calling the incident a "murder-suicide" in those exact terms, but I'm not. We're going to call it what it is. Which leaves me lost as to they continue to tip-toeing around this, as if not calling it what it is will change the result.

The gun owned by Sahel Kazemi was found under her body where both she and Steve McNair, who suffered four gun shot wounds to her one, were discovered. After turning up no suspects or persons of interest, finding gun residue on her hand, the single shot at close range to her head...why are they reluctant at this point?

It's annoying that they're sugar-coating the murder and suicide of this man and woman. Steve McNair died at the hands of his girlfriend who tragically claimed both of their lives. At any event...this story is truly sad and I hope we all keep the families of both McNair and Kazemi in our thoughts, minds and prayers.

Entire article can be read here

UPDATED:

(CNN) — Twenty-year-old Sahel Kazemi shot Steve McNair while he was sleeping on the sofa in his Nashville condo, before shooting herself in the head, police said Wednesday.

Kazemi shot McNair in the head, then fired twice into his chest before shooting him again in the head, police said.

Authorities said in the days leading up to the shooting, Kazemi told a friend her life was “messed up” and she wanted to end it. Kazemi also believed her relationship with McNair — a married father of four — was unraveling and that he was involved with another woman.

SMDH...I'm done with this story! R.I.H. McNair & Kazemi (she deserves some peace as well)

***BREAKING NEWS*** STEVE MCNAIR FOUND DEAD!

Saturday, July 4, 2009
A press conference was just held on ESPN on the death of Steve McNair and a female companion. At around 1:00 p.m. a friend of McNair came by the condominium where he found the bodies of McNair and a female identified as, Sahel Kazemi, 20. Shortly after the police were called and responded to the scene where McNair was said to have died from multiple gunshot wounds to the body and head. Kazemi was also pronounced dead at the scene from a single gun shot wound to the head. The gun used in the incident was found close to Kazemi's body.

Currently police in Nashville have not identified any suspects in this case and are not actively looking for any. Autopsies are scheduled to be conducted in the morning.

Earlier in the week Miss Sahel Kazemi was arrested for DUI while she and McNair were out driving a 2007 Cadalliac Escalade said to be owned by both her and McNair. McNair was not charged with anything and left the scene in a cab.

This story just gets stranger and stranger by the minute...

Steve McNair leaves behind his wife Michelle McNair & 4 sons. He was 36 years old.

Earlier: ESPN is reporting that Steve McNair former NFL QB was found dead from fatal gun shot wounds to the head. Story here

Taken from ESPN.com reactions from around the league on the McNair's death:

"We don't know the details, but it is a terrible tragedy and our hearts go out to the families involved."
Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner

"We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair's passing today. He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing."
K.S. "Bud" Adams Jr., Tennessee Titans owner

"Steve was such a happy person. I even called him 'Smile.' He was always smiling and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. I've known him for 13 years, and he was the most selfless, happiest and friendliest person I have known. His family and my family are close, and it is a blow to us all. It is a devastating day. Steve will always have a place in my heart. My family and I are hurting for his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. "On the field, there isn't player that was as tough as him, especially at the quarterback position. What I have seen him play through on the field, and what he dealt with during the week to get ready for a game, I have never known a better teammate."
Derrick Mason, McNair's teammate with the Titans and Ravens

"Steve was the ultimate man, first of all. I played with Steve every year of my career, except for two, and got to know his family during that time. He was such a good family man. My prayers are with them at this tough time. I still can't even believe it. To lose such a good friend and a good man so soon doesn't make sense."
Samari Rolle, McNair's teammate with the Titans and Ravens

"This is so, so sad. We immediately think of his family, his boys. They are all in our thoughts and prayers. What we admired most about Steve when we played against him was his competitive spirit, and we were lucky enough to have that with us for two years. He is one of the best players in the NFL over the last 20 years. ... He was a great player, one of the toughest of competitors, and a tremendous teammate, who was a leader on the field and in the locker room, especially to the young players."
Ozzie Newsome, Ravens executive vice president and general manager

"Right now the only thing I can say is I feel for Mechelle and his family and I'm praying for them. We can talk all the football stories you want later but right now Mechelle and the kids are the most important thing."
Mike Heimerdinger, Titans offensive coordinator

"I will remember Steve's smile, his laugh, his ability to cook -- the man could cook -- and just the human being that he was. We had some great time together, wonderful personality. The football thing was one thing and I remember his playing days, but just the human being. He brought so much joy to so many people. He was a consummate pro and he was a gentleman. He was a great father. He raised his boys very well, they are well behaved. His legacy will live on. We say goodbye to Steve in the human form, but his spirit and his memory will always last forever. I'm here to celebrate my teammate, celebrate my friend, his life and support his family. We will see this through.
Eddie George, former Titans running back

"He played the game the way it was supposed to be played, not for the glory, not for the press, not for the money, but because he was a true competitor and he wanted to prove a lot of people wrong. It was all about the love of the game and I think after his career he was a peace with where he was at with his family, his sons and what he was giving back to the community. It is a shame for this to happen."
Frank Wycheck, former Titans tight end

"I almost thought it was a joke, but then I kept getting text messages and phone calls. I saw Steve at Jeff Fisher's charity softball game just two weeks ago. We were talking about his restaurant opening up, his 17-year old son that's back home playing ball with the chance to play D-I. He talked about being retired and how he's adjusting. We talked about everything but football, really. He seemed very content. He was just happy being retired. To have his life taken away from him is bad for everybody in the community and back in Mississippi. As a player, he was pretty even keeled at quarterback and he wasn't going to be too high or too low. He didn't show a whole lot of emotion outside of playing ball. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family."
Kevin Dyson, former Titans wide receiver

"There was never any question about his heart, his toughness and his ability to play this game. He's one of my all-time favorite people that I've ever had the chance to be around. I think he was perfect for that organization at that particular time when all of a sudden a Hall of Famer had left the organization in Warren Moon and then Steve McNair comes in to fill those shoes. ... As I look back on him, one of the things I was most amazed about with him was his silent strength, the way he was able to lead people through example over words. I learned an awful lot watching him develop from a leadership role."
Gregg Williams, former Titans defensive coordinator

"Steve was special and as tough and competitive of a guy that I have ever been around. As soon as we got him in Baltimore, he gave our team instant confidence and I was fortunate to be around him for two seasons. As great of a player as he was, it was more of an honor to know him as a person. My heart and prayers go out to his family."
Rex Ryan, Jets coach and Baltimore's defensive coordinator during McNair's two seasons with the Ravens

"Talk about toughness, McNair is at the top of the list. He played with pain, could take a hit and never ran from a hit. "McNair was probably one of the most easy-going guys I've ever been around. He was real laidback and easy to coach. You admired McNair because he always tried to do what you wanted him to do."
Jim Fassel, former NFL coach, told the Washington Post

"The whole black quarterback thing, it's like a fraternity. Guys who played before you pass the torch down to younger guys. You always keep in contact with those guys who came before you. You try to keep in contact with them and learn as much as possible from them. Losing a guy like that from our fraternity ... it hurts because of how much you looked up to him. He's definitely one of the guys I looked up to. A lot of other guys looked up to him to. It's just a real hard day."
Jason Campbell, Washington Redskins quarterback as told to the Washington Post

"I am in utter disbelief. Steve always came to work with a smile and a joy about him. I remember him as a dad that brought his kids to the facility and we all embraced them as our own. Not only will Steve's family miss him, but the entire NFL family has lost a brother. His death was far too early and my thoughts and prayers are with his family."
Bart Scott, Jets linebacker, McNair's teammate in Baltimore for two seasons
